Frequently Asked Questions

Are the shelves fully adjustable?
Yes infinitely: they are mounted on concealed brass pegs which engage holes at 50mm centres.

Are there shelves in the cupboards?
Yes, a single adjustable shelf.

Can the cupboards and filing drawers be locked?
Yes, either brass door locks or individual push locks.

What happens about electrical sockets which are located behind units?
Wherever possible we cut out for these and provide cable access where necessary, this can also be done for TV/Telephone/Broadband sockets aswell.

What happens to existing skirting?
Normally we simply “scribe” round this, there is no need to remove it: the same applies to dado/picture rail

What about carpets?
We can quite easily fit on top of your existing carpet; should you wish to change it in the future simply cut round and re-fit or alternatively we can fit to underfloor and carpets fitted after.

What woods do you use?
See full spec but generally solid tulip wood for framework doors etc and MDF for large flat areas. Obviously, for all wood bookcase, say, Oak it will be solid Oak and veneered panels.

What is the difference between fitted and unfitted?
Fitted bookcases are made in a slightly different way- they are “scribed” around skirtings and dados, close fitted to walls so you cant see the join ( there is a 25mm void behind units for ventilation). Unfitted are essentially freestanding but can have cutouts for skirting and cleated to walls if required.

How does the bookcase arrive and do you use your own fitters?
Yes, your bookcase will come straight from the workshop to your home, finished and wrapped in blankets with the minimum of fuss; normally fitting will only take a day, sometimes two.

Do you cover the whole country?
Yes, from the Hebrides to the Channel Islands!

Do you charge for surveys and estimates?
No, obviously we like to think that you are reasonably committed due to the costs involved but estimates are free and without obligation.
